My Writing Technologies

The writing technology that I use most these days texting with my phone, with the computer through email and social sites (such as facebook and myspace) take a close second. I send and receive about 100 text messages a day. Texting has made talking on the phone almost obsolete for me. I text my boyfriend throughout the day while I’m at work, in school, and driving (terrible, I know, I know!). I also text anyone that I need to get in touch with because it is a short, easy way to keep in contact with people.  As far as email, facebook, and myspace, I check my email about ten times a day (even though my phone tells me any time I receive a new email), I also check both facebook and myspace multiple times throughout the day both with my phone and computer. These four technologies are all fairly new to my life. I have used email for the past seven years, I’ve had a myspace account for about five years, I have been texting for about four years, and I have had a facebook for about four years. I can hardly even remember the days that I would call someone instead of texting them!
As a young child, I obviously used crayons and markers to write, and as I grew older I went from those tools to a pencil, to the pen. These days in classes I still use a pen and paper to take notes even though I own a mini laptop (one of the best inventions to date. Mine is a Asus EEE PC).  As technology has changed, so have my writing tools/technologies. I think that this is pretty standard, especially with people in my generation.
I own a desktop computer, I full-size laptop (which I should sell really because I haven’t touched it in months), a mini laptop, and a smart phone, so I am never more than an arm’s length away from a device that is connected to the internet. I went from only writing while I was in school and doing homework, to writing from the time I wake up in the morning (texts), throughout the day, and even sometimes while sleeping (obviously not while I am sleeping, but I am awakened occasionally by a text).

  1. Yikes, don’t text while you drive! I do a little texting, but no where near 100 messages a day, that’s for sure.
